Old School RuneScape Quest Guide: The Great Brain Robbery

Jan-13-2026 PST Category: Runescape

The Great Brain Robbery quest in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) offers an exciting mix of combat, crafting, and puzzle-solving, rewarding players with valuable items, experience, and quest points. Completing this quest grants the Barrel Chest anchor weapon, the ability to cast the Harmony Island teleport on the Araya spellbook, a prayer book to cure poison, 6,000 Prayer XP, 3,000 Crafting XP, 2,000 Construction XP, a 5,000 XP blessed lamp, and two quest points. Before starting, ensure you’ve completed Cabin Fever, Creature of Fen Conen Strain, and the freeing pirate segment of Recipe for Disaster. Players looking to save time or secure key materials may also choose to buy OSRS gold to efficiently obtain items needed for the quest.

Skill Requirements and Recommendations
To undertake this quest, players must have 50 Prayer, 30 Construction, and 16 Crafting. A 60 Combat level is recommended for fighting the level 190 Barrel Chest boss. For an easier fight, use ranged or magic, as this allows safe-spotting the boss, avoiding its heavy melee hits of over 20 damage that also drain prayer points. Note that a halberd cannot be used to safe spot this boss.

Essential Items

Key items include a Fishbowl Helmet and Diving Apparatus, obtainable from Murphy at Port Khazard if lost. You’ll also need 10 wooden cats at the quest start. Purchasing them from the Grand Exchange is faster, but they can also be crafted using 10 regular planks and 10 pieces of fur (regular, bear, or gray wolf) at a Crafting Table One in a player-owned house. If you craft them, ensure you have a workshop room in your house with a crafting table already built, requiring four oak planks, a hammer, and a saw. Non-Ironman players can also craft wooden cats in other players’ houses.

Other required items include a hammer, around 100 nails, eight normal planks, a holy symbol, and a Ring of Caros. Recommended combat items include ranged or magic setup, 300 arrows or appropriate runes, a combat potion, a prayer potion, 20 pieces of high-healing food, and a stamina potion.

Teleportation Essentials
Efficient movement is critical. Bring a charged Combat Bracelet, two Fenkenstrain’s Castle teleports, a South Graveyard teleport (or Carrall Teleport if Desert Treasure 1 is complete), and three Mostly Harmless teleports to reach the quest start. Alternatively, charter ships can be used, requiring coins. Ensure no pets follow you during the quest.

Starting the Quest
Begin at the settlement on Mostly Harmless by talking to Brother Tranquility, located just outside the fishing shop. Accept the quest, and you’ll be teleported to Harmony Island’s windmill. Here, converse with monks whose brains have been transplanted into zombie bodies. Then run north to a statue above the farming patches, careful to avoid aggressive level 57 zombie pirates. Pull the statue to reveal a passage and climb down into a flooded cave, equipping your diving gear.

Underwater Tunnel and Crafting
Descend the stairs into an underwater tunnel, protect from melee, and run east to broken stairs. Use nails and four planks to repair them, then climb the ladder to a monastery room with a peephole revealing the monks’ plight. After overhearing a conversation, climb down, return through the tunnel, and head back to the windmill. Brother Tranquility will direct you to obtain a prayer book from the Edgeville Monastery. Equip the holy symbol and recite the prayer to protect the area from gas.

Wooden Cats and Crate Construction
Obtain six crate parts and a wolf whistle from Rufus in Canifis. Use your wooden cats to fill a wooden crate at a crafting table. Blow the wolf whistle to convince Rufus the cats are alive, then use the shipping order to send the crate away. Return to Mostly Harmless to prepare for the final boss fight.

Final Boss Fight
Enter the instanced monastery and confront Migor. Safe-spot the Barrel Chest behind the northeastern bench, attacking from a distance with ranged or magic. Avoid melee attacks to prevent massive damage and prayer drain. Defeat the boss, pick up the Barrel Chest anchor, and return to the windmill. Talk to Brother Tranquility to complete the quest.

Quest Rewards
Upon completion, you receive the Barrel Chest Anchor, ability to cast the Harmony Island teleport, a poison-curing prayer book, 6,000 Prayer XP, 3,000 Crafting XP, 2,000 Construction XP, a 5,000 XP blessed lamp, and two quest points. The anchor can be repaired for 230,000 coins on Mostly Harmless docks.
