Complete Guide to Old School RuneScape – Morning’s End Part II
Morning’s End Part II is one of the most mechanically demanding quests in Old School RuneScape, centered around endurance, navigation, and puzzle-solving rather than combat. Completing it unlocks major progression benefits, including access to the Death Altar, Dark Beasts, and 60,000 Agility XP. Because the quest can be resource-intensive-with multiple potion uses, stamina management, and potential gear upgrades-some players choose to buy OSRS gold to better prepare for the journey and avoid supply shortages during the more punishing sections.
Requirements and Preparation
Before starting, you must complete Morning’s End Part I. While there are no hard skill requirements, 65 Agility is strongly recommended due to a notoriously difficult obstacle inside the Temple of Light. Failing this obstacle repeatedly can significantly slow your progress.
Although combat isn’t required, you will be constantly attacked by Shadows. These enemies hit frequently with melee, so 43 Prayer (Protect from Melee) is highly advised to mitigate damage.
Required items:
· Full Mourner outfit (mask, top, trousers, gloves, boots, cloak)
· Chisel
· Rope
· Death or Catalytic talisman/tiara
If you lack a Death talisman, Ironmen should grind Guardians of the Rift for a Catalytic talisman. The alternative-collecting 50 junk items during the quest-is far more time-consuming.
Recommended setup:
· Lightweight prayer armor (Monk robes or Proselyte)
· Prayer bonus weapon (Ancient mace or Dragon mace)
· 10 Prayer potions, 4 Stamina potions
· 6 Summer pies (for +5 Agility boost)
· Teleport crystal (for Lletya access)
· Ring of dueling (for Ferox Enclave restores)
Keep several inventory spaces free throughout the quest.
Starting the Quest
Begin in Lletya by speaking to Arianwyn. Ensure your teleport crystal has at least two charges. If not, recharge it via Eluned nearby.
Next, teleport to West Ardougne and enter the Mourner Headquarters while wearing your full Mourner outfit. Navigate through the basement and into the underground pass, activating Protect from Melee as you proceed west.
Eventually, you’ll reach a temple after a short cutscene. Search a nearby guard to obtain a journal, then enter the Temple of Light.
Initial Setup Inside the Temple
Climb to the middle level and navigate to a room with a hole. Use your rope on nearby rocks, then retrieve a dark crystal from another section using your chisel.
Teleport back to Lletya, speak with Arianwyn to convert the crystal, restore your Prayer, and prepare for the main challenge: the light puzzles.
Solving the Light Puzzles
The Temple of Light contains six interconnected puzzles involving mirrors and colored crystals. The goal is to redirect beams of light across multiple floors to unlock sealed doors.
Core mechanics:
· Mirrors redirect light beams (north, south, east, west)
· Crystals change beam colors (yellow, cyan, dark blue, fractured)
· Certain doors only open when struck by specific colored light
You’ll repeatedly:
1. Collect mirrors and crystals from the dispenser
2. Position mirrors to route beams correctly
3. Change beam colors using crystals
4. Unlock doors and collect new items
Important tips:
· Keep Protect from Melee active at all times
· Use the Ancient mace special attack on Shadows to restore Prayer
· Do NOT reset puzzles unless explicitly required
· Maintain inventory space (up to 13 slots needed later)
The Agility Obstacle
One of the biggest roadblocks is a low-success agility obstacle over a chasm. Even at 65 Agility, failures are common.
To improve success:
· Eat Summer pies before attempting (+5 boost)
· Be prepared to backtrack and retry multiple times
This section is often the most frustrating part of the quest—patience is key.
Progressing Through All Six Puzzles
Each puzzle builds on previous configurations. Later puzzles involve:
· Multi-floor light routing
· Combining crystal colors (e.g., green via yellow + cyan)
· Complex mirror chains
As you progress, you’ll collect special crystals like:
· Cyan crystal
· Dark blue crystal
· Fractured crystals
Avoid resetting the system unless absolutely necessary, as it will undo progress.
The Red Light Mechanic (Critical)
Near the end, you’ll encounter a red light beam system. This is extremely important:
· Before leaving the temple, ALWAYS rotate the mirror so the red beam points toward the entrance
· Failing to do this forces you to re-enter via the Underground Pass (much longer route)
Death Talisman Step
If you don’t already have a Death or Catalytic talisman, you’ll need to gather 50 items for Thorgel. This requires multiple trips but does NOT require redoing puzzles.
Once obtained, use the talisman to access the Death Altar.
Final Steps and Completion
Inside the altar:
· Optionally craft a Death rune (if 65 Runecrafting)
· Use your quest crystal on the altar to charge it
Return to the temple, complete the final light alignment, and purify the black crystal.
Finally, teleport back to Lletya and speak to Arianwyn to complete the quest.
Rewards
Completing Morning’s End Part II grants:
· Access to the Death Altar (Death rune crafting)
· Access to Dark Beasts and Slayer ring teleport
· Crystal trinket (Temple re-entry)
· 60,000 Agility XP
· 2 Quest Points
This quest is less about difficulty and more about execution under pressure. With proper preparation and careful puzzle handling, you can complete it efficiently without unnecessary resets or frustration, though some players opt to secure cheap OSRS gold beforehand to comfortably afford the supplies and gear needed for a smoother experience throughout the Temple of Light.
