Elden Ring: How to Complete Kenneth Haight's Questline
Kenneth's questline is short but ties into the world's broader narrative and offers a few useful Elden Ring Items, as well as a small opportunity to earn Elden Ring Runes through combat and exploration. Here's how to complete Kenneth Haight's quest from start to finish.
Where to Find Kenneth Haight
Kenneth Haight is located in northeastern Limgrave, perched atop the crumbling ruins spanning the road between the Mistwood Outskirts and the Third Church of Marika Sites of Grace. As you descend into this region, you'll hear him calling for help. Engage him in conversation, and he will dramatically proclaim himself the next ruler of Limgrave.
Kenneth requests your assistance in reclaiming Fort Haight, which has been seized by hostile forces. He promises a reward, referring to himself as a man of “considerable largesse.”
Clearing Fort Haight
Accepting Kenneth's request sets you on the path to Fort Haight, located southeast of Mistwood and guarded by a number of enemies. The fort has been overtaken by a faction of Godrick's loyalists, including a strong Godrick Knight stationed atop the battlements.
Inside the fort, you'll encounter various enemies, but your primary target is the knight. Defeat him to earn a powerful Elden Ring Item: the Ash of War: Bloody Slash, which can be equipped on compatible weapons and enhances them with a high-damage blood-based special attack.
Defeating the Godrick Knight not only grants you Elden Ring Runes but also clears the fort, allowing Kenneth to reclaim it, at least temporarily.
Returning to Kenneth
Once the fort is secure, return to Kenneth at his original location in the ruins. True to his word, he rewards you with the Erdsteel Dagger, a solid early-game weapon and a collectible Elden Ring Item for those building a dagger or dexterity-focused character.
After bestowing the dagger, Kenneth will propose a new honor: he wishes to make you a knight in his service. However, he needs time to prepare. To progress his dialogue, rest at the Fort Haight West Site of Grace, then return to the fort.
A Knighting... Delayed
Upon returning to Fort Haight after resting, you'll find Kenneth atop the battlements, the very same place where you fought the Godrick Knight. Unfortunately, your ceremonial knighting doesn't go as planned. The fort is now overrun again, this time by a horde of Demi-Humans. Kenneth expresses dismay, stating that he cannot anoint you a knight until a “true and stalwart Lord” arises to lead Limgrave.
At this point, Kenneth's quest appears to stall indefinitely. He has no more tasks for you, and while he speaks of future plans and a return to proper rule, those events never fully unfold.
Optional Progression
While Kenneth's own story doesn't conclude in a traditional sense, he does make a final optional appearance, if you've also been following the questline of Nepheli Loux.
To trigger this interaction:
Defeat Morgott, the Omen King.
Give Nepheli the Stormhawk King key item (obtained in the Chapel of Anticipation via a return portal, after acquiring the Imbued Sword Key).
Avoid giving her Seluvis's Potion, as it will corrupt her path.
Rest at the Godrick the Grafted Site of Grace in Stormveil Castle.
If all conditions are met, Kenneth, Nepheli Loux, and Gatekeeper Gostoc will appear in the throne room of Stormveil Castle. Kenneth will acknowledge Nepheli as the true Lord of Limgrave and mention that he will return to his fort to finally knight you. Unfortunately, this knighting ceremony never occurs, and his dialogue doesn't progress further beyond this scene.
Can You Kill Kenneth Haight
Yes. Kenneth is a non-essential NPC, and after he gives you the Erdsteel Dagger, you can kill him without disrupting any other quests. Doing so rewards you with a Golden Seed, a crucial Elden Ring Item used to increase your flask charges, a tempting reward for those who don't mind cutting his storyline short.
Why Kenneth's Quest Matters
While Kenneth's quest is relatively light on tangible rewards, it serves a few purposes:
World-building: His desire to restore order to Limgrave contrasts with the chaos and ruin around him, offering a glimpse at what nobility used to look like in the Lands Between.
Character development: His interactions with Nepheli Loux subtly reinforce the theme of fallen royalty and the search for worthy leadership.
Combat rewards: Clearing Fort Haight nets you Elden Ring Runes, Bloody Slash, and the Erdsteel Dagger, solid rewards early in your journey.
Final Thoughts
Kenneth Haight's story may not have the grandeur of Ranni's or the tragedy of Blaidd's, but it still offers memorable moments, light political satire, and useful early-game Elden Ring Items. Whether you choose to humor him or cut his story short for a Golden Seed, Kenneth remains a quirky footnote in Limgrave's history.
And while he may never actually knight you, the Elden Ring Runes and loot you earn during his quest are reward enough for your service to his short-lived claim of nobility.
