Elden Ring: How to Complete Edgar's Quest
This guide breaks down Edgar's entire questline, including where to find him, how to advance his story, and what rewards you can expect, if you're willing to make difficult choices. As always, bring plenty of Elden Ring Runes and prepare for emotional fallout.
Step 1: Begin with Irina at the Weeping Peninsula
Your journey with Edgar begins not with the man himself, but with his daughter, Irina. You'll find her sitting near the first Site of Grace after crossing the Bridge of Sacrifice, at the northern entrance to the Weeping Peninsula.
Irina is blind and frightened. She pleads with the player to deliver a letter, Irina's Letter, to her father, who is defending Castle Morne, located at the southern tip of the peninsula. This starts a tragic chain of events.
Step 2: Deliver Irina's Letter to Edgar at Castle Morne
Head south to Castle Morne, where the ramparts are overrun by Misbegotten enemies. Edgar can be found in a non-hostile section of the ramparts, sitting on a bench. Speak to him, and he will introduce himself as the Castellan, charged with protecting the castle and, more importantly, the Grafted Blade Greatsword, a legendary weapon and one of the notable Elden Ring Items in the region.
Upon receiving Irina's Letter, Edgar expresses his heartbreak but refuses to abandon his post. He is a man torn between his duty and his daughter.
Step 3: Defeat the Leonine Misbegotten
To help Edgar fulfill both his duty and his promise to Irina, you must defeat the Leonine Misbegotten, a ferocious boss located on the beach behind Castle Morne. After delivering the letter, you can summon Edgar to assist you in this battle, but only if you haven't killed him prematurely or missed a key event trigger.
Defeating the boss grants you the Grafted Blade Greatsword, one of the game's most powerful colossals and a valuable Elden Ring Item for strength builds.
Step 4: Return to Irina
Once the boss is defeated and the castle secured, return to Irina's location to find her lifeless body, slumped against a rock with an Iron Cleaver embedded nearby. The shocking scene reveals that she has been murdered, implying that the Misbegotten reached her before her father could.
After discovering her body, travel back to Edgar. He will express his grief and vow revenge. From this moment, Edgar's questline enters its final stage.
Step 5: Find Edgar Again
Sometime after Irina's death and your conversation with Edgar, he will disappear from Castle Morne. You will next encounter him at the Revenger's Shack, located in Liurnia of the Lakes.
Here, Edgar appears as a hostile invader, now known as Edgar the Revenger. Driven mad by loss and vengeance, he will attack you. Defeat him in battle, and you'll be rewarded with:
Banished Knight's Halberd (+8) – A powerful, pre-upgraded weapon.
Shabriri Grape – A key item tied to another NPC questline.
This encounter closes the book on Edgar's descent into darkness.
Alternate Outcomes and Quest Warnings
There are several variations of Edgar's quest depending on your actions:
If you kill Edgar before delivering the letter, you will break the quest and lose the chance to summon him or complete his storyline.
If you kill Edgar after he moves to Irina's body, you will still receive the Banished Knight's Halberd (+8), but he won't invade at the Revenger's Shack.
If you defeat Edgar as an invader before fighting the Leonine Misbegotten, you lose access to his summon and much of the narrative closure.
Timing matters greatly in this quest. Be mindful of when and where you encounter Edgar.
Rune and Item Rewards
While Edgar's story is grim, it's not without its material benefits. Completing this questline gives you access to:
Grafted Blade Greatsword – A Remembrance-tier weapon hidden behind the Leonine Misbegotten.
Banished Knight's Halberd (+8) – One of the highest base-stat polearms early in the game.
Shabriri Grape – An essential item for Hyetta's questline.
Elden Ring Runes – Gained from the boss and Edgar's defeat, these are critical for upgrading your stats or purchasing other Elden Ring Items from merchants.
Final Thoughts
Edgar's quest in Elden Ring is not about heroism or glory, it's a tragic tale of a father's inability to protect his child in a crumbling world. His unwavering sense of duty leads not to salvation, but to despair. Yet, like many stories in the Lands Between, it leaves behind weapons, clues, and insights that shape your journey.
Make sure to bring enough Elden Ring Runes to level up and handle the powerful foes involved. And don't overlook the Elden Ring Items that tie together the fates of characters like Irina, Edgar, and the larger world around them.
